Liz' 5 Under 40 Rug - The Oyster Shell

We hope that you will join the Martha's Vineyard Interior Design Team this coming September 13th for New England Home's 5 Under 40 Celebration, honoring our very own Liz Stiving-Nichols! Landry & Arcari, a partnering sponsor for the event, challenged each winner with the task of designing their own rug. We're excited to share with you the beautiful carpet that Liz created, and to let you know that it will be available for bidding at the event. Proceeds will benefit Barakat, a charity that works to strengthen education and literacy in Central and South Asia.

"Inspired by a shell commonly found in the waters of Martha's Vineyard, I wanted this design to evoke the gently sloping contours and subtle color variation of the oyster shell. By creating an organic design that gives a nod to the island where our interior design firm is based, the design takes a personal approach. I often draw inspiration from the natural surroundings of each project. The textures of wool and silk, as well as transitions in height from cut pile to loop, reflect the shell's coarse waves and natural ombre. The field is raw, cut-pile hemp creating a more earthy hand, embodying a sandy beach. There is so much depth and structure in this often overlooked shell. I like to think the pearl isn't the oyster's only treasure."
